Last Night’s Highlights
Bichette’s 3 HR game leads Blue Jays to DH sweep
The Blue Jays won both games of the double hitter with Bo Bichette having a career game in the nightcap going deep three times for his 19th, 20th & 21st HRs of the season. It was Bichette’s first career 3 HR game leading them to an 8-4 victory in game 2.
Kevin Gausman was the difference in the opener in his first start as a visitor in Baltimore where he pitched for six seasons to start his career. Gausman went 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs in a 7-3 win.
It was a difficult day for the Orioles who now fall 4.5 games behind Toronto in the American League wild-card standings. It has been a magical season in Baltimore already, but they need to finish the month even stronger if they hope to see action in October.
Judge Homers again as Yankees beat Twins
Aaron Judge homered for the third consecutive day and 5th time in a week. This hot streak now has Judge within 7 HRs of the American League record of 61 in a season. Aaron has 27 games to reach that mark and is now a heavy favourite to do so.
More importantly for the Yankees, they stopped the Twins 5-2. The win keeps their lead in the AL at 5 over Tampa Bay, but Toronto closes to 5.5 games back with their two wins in Baltimore.
Rays rally to beat Red Sox
The Rays rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 in a tight game against their rivals from Boston. The loss halts the five-game winning streak for the Red Sox but they remain 9 games out of a playoff spot. The Rays kept pace with New York who had already won earlier in the day.
Tonight’s Featured Game
Mariners (76-59) Gilbert Vs White Sox (68-67) Cueto, 9:40
Chicago won game 1, of this series 3-2 last night behind another strong performance from Lance Lynn. The game turned on a two-run HR by Elvis Andrus that was briefly in the glove of Mitch Henniger but carried over the wall. Mariners left two runners in scoring position in the 9th but Liam Hendricks shut the door for Chicago.
The loss ends the seven-game winning streak for the Mariners who still sit comfortably on top of the wild-card standings. Despite Seattle’s quality play, Houston remains 11 games ahead and likely out of reach in the Central division.
It has been a rocky season for the White Sox, but they remain in the race in the Central just 2 games behind Cleveland with the Twins sandwiched in between them. The White Sox still control their own destiny with 10 games remaining against the two teams ahead of them and 10 more against bottom feeders Oakland and Detroit.
Today's matchup features two more quality starters in Logan Gilbert (11-5) and Johnny Cueto (7-6). Both pitchers have been solid for their clubs in the middle of the rotations. We should expect another close low-scoring game tonight in Seattle.
Current Line - Seattle -145, 7.5
Key Injuries
White Sox - None
Mariners - Chris Mazza
Tonight’s Best Bets
I picked up a couple of losses yesterday but we keep moving forward. It was still a good week so I am optimistic looking ahead to the start of the NFL season in just two days.
September’s Best Bets: 11-6, +3.51 Units
Blue Jays (White) [-105] @ Orioles (Bradish) $
Is the magic in Baltimore all used up for the season? It will be difficult for this club to continue overperforming down the stretch especially with the tough schedule ahead of them. They still have 8 games remaining against Toronto this season, 7 against Boston, plus a series against Houston and the Yankees.
The Blue Jays are playing their best baseball of the season at the most important time. They should continue to create space in the wild-card standing, and if the Yankees continue to falter challenge for the AL east.
Mariners (Gilbert) [-145] Vs White Sox (Cueto) $
Seattle lost a tough game to Lance Lynn and the White Sox yesterday but still came very close to pulling out another win. The result should be different today with a more favourable pitching matchup. Seattle is the superior team and should continue to roll into the playoffs.
